[Under the fabulous tree in the cabin are several assorted gifts from one Ginny Weasley to her older brother. Among the socks, Muggle sweets, and magic tricks (http://www.toyday.co.uk/shop/images/uploads/magicset.jpg), is a rather lumpy Gryffindor-coloured scarf with a crookedly-embroidered F on one end. The note attached reads: Tried to do the jumpers but failed rather miserably. Don't laugh when you see this or I'll hex you. Love, Ginny.]

[Somehow, Mrs Ginny Potter has managed to get a hold of her old owl and use him to send a note that her younger self doesn't know about. Merlin knows if this will work (despite being from the future, she certainly doesn't know), but she has to try. And perhaps this is coming from a far more selfish place because she cannot resist contacting her late brother. Even nearly ten years later, she still misses him fiercely. The little scrap of parchment will be waiting on Fred's pillow, his name on the front of it written in a familiar hand. The rest reads:

Dear Fred,

I know it must seem like I'm cross with you right now. Actually, I'm probably the angriest I've ever been with you. And I am, a bit—but I don't want you to believe a second of it. I'm more relieved than anything else to see you again, I'm just rubbish at expressing it. I wanted to apologise for the way I acted because I don't think you deserve to wait any longer to hear it. I'm sorry I yelled at you and I'm sorry if I blamed you for something that couldn't be helped. But you know how I can be. So try not to think too hard on it, alright? All that fuss and trying to outdo Mum's Howlers just means I care. I'd like to you remember that.

I wish I could see you. I miss you every day. I know I'm breaking every rule in even sending you this letter, but I couldn't help but try and smooth things over between us. I know it's hard enough as it is and I'm not making it any easier. I'll apologise properly—eventually. And there's one more thing: I can't go into specifics (or, rather, I shouldn't), but I wanted you to know that things are alright after the battle later on. Everything's worked out as best as they could have; and while it isn't perfect, we've gotten closer to better.

[ Fred's tired and worn by the time he enters his room for the first time - in a month, apparently - and finds the letter. At first, he almost wonders if Gin's just being silly, so he flops down onto the bed and Levitates the letter above him to read it. It's bloody odd and makes no sense to begin with (Weasleys don't apologise like this, not ever), but then he gets to the second bit and surprise breaks the spell, letting the paper fall on top of him. He scrambles to sit up and read it from the beginning again, studying every word, every letter.

It's Ginny, but it's not Ginny - not yet. Not yet, but it will be, and they'll be happy and proper, the way things should be. Should've been. He reads through it two or three more times before quietly folding it away in the inside pocket of his favourite coat where he can always find it when he needs to remember.
